The application process for 2010-11 is now closed.


Please read the basic requirements and obligations before filling out the application at the bottom of the page. All applicants must meet the basic requirements and obligations to participate in the interview process.

Basic Requirements

  1. Each candidate must be a full-time UNCG undergraduate student and have completed 12 credit hours at UNCG by January of the year you are a Spartan Orientation Staff leader.
  2. Each candidate must have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average at the time of application and maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative average throughout employment. No student may hold the position while on academic or disciplinary probation as defined by the Student Code of Conduct.

Basic Obligations

  1. SOS contracts are signed in December with employment beginning in January and continuing through the following January.
  2. SOS leaders must attend all spring training sessions and all SOS programs, including the 3 to 4-day Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) conference in March.
  3. An SOS leader may not take courses or hold an outside job during May training and June SOAR. Each SOS must live in the designated SOS residence hall during SOAR events and training. Orientation & Family Programs will cover the cost of housing and a limited number of meals during this time.

The Interview and Selection Process

  1. Attend the interest session to find out more information about the application process.
  2. Complete the online application. (NOTE: The application for SOS 2010-11 is available only during the recruitment period of September 10, 2009 through September 22, 2009.)
  3. By email invitation only, attend a group interview where you will work on several teambuilding and problem-solving activities. The selection of invitees to the group interview is based on your application.
  4. If selected after completing the group interview, you will be invited for a 30 minute individual interview with Orientation & Family Programs staff members.
  5. Final selections are made and contracts will be signed at the Contract Signing meeting in December.
